Day 1 – Awareness Precedes Change

Most of us begin a cleanse because we’re seeking some kind of transformation. We feel it’s time to wake up, and we know that feeling good isn’t an accident—it’s a practice. We need movement and community as much as we need vitamin D and magnesium.

As we step into Day One, let’s begin with Awareness of Light—the kind of light as powerful as the sun, that we can both shine onto ourselves and radiate out from our being. Imagine this light illuminating not only your strength and beauty, but also the places where you may still hold onto old patterns.

Let’s go deeper.
Let’s go braver.

Allow this light to reveal truths within you—truths that may uncover some of the limiting beliefs you’ve been carrying.

Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed.
— Thích Nhất Hạnh

Here’s the honest truth: doing one exercise and suddenly erasing all limiting beliefs is a fantasy. The story of the Buddha describes his regular visits from Mara, who represented darkness, doubt, fear, greed, aggression, and all the ways our minds are pulled from truth. Instead of resisting Mara, the Buddha would famously say, “I see you, Mara. Come, let’s have tea.”  Rather than pushing Mara away (aversion), he chose curiosity and presence.

In the same way, I invite you to notice your own “Mara”—the limiting beliefs that may visit from time to time. They may still come knocking, but over time our practice teaches us how to meet them differently, so they no longer define who we are.

Your limiting beliefs do not have to be your identity.

For example, I might carry the belief that I have to do everything on my own. But that doesn’t have to be my identity. My truer identity is that I am a teacher, a leader, and part of a community that thrives on co-creation.

Limiting beliefs don’t have to victimize us. Instead, they can become invitations—openings into more light, more truth, and more freedom.

So this is my invitation for you today: see your limiting beliefs in a way that empowers you. Let this be a space of curiosity, compassion, and possibility.

I love you. Keep going.

Journal

  1. What limiting beliefs are you aware of right now?

  2. In what ways (if any) have these beliefs benefited you?

  3. How have they protected or helped you in the past?

  4. How have they kept you from experiencing what you truly want?

  5. What is one way you could reframe this belief to open a new window of opportunity?

Action
Write down your reframed belief and place it somewhere you’ll see it every day. Return to it in meditation, and let it become part of your daily reset.

Ritual

Today we begin our 10-Day gua sha ritual.

I’ve included a tutorial for you to follow along with for a fascial gua sha practice. This is a deeply nurturing ritual—one that not only brings a healthy glow to your skin, but also gently supports your lymphatic system, helping your body release stagnation and encourage flow.

Think of it as more than skincare. Each stroke is an invitation to slow down, to connect with your own touch, and to send loving attention into the tissues of your face and body. As you move the tool, imagine you are sweeping away old energy and creating space for renewal.

Try committing to this practice consistently throughout the cleanse. You can make it your morning ritual to awaken and brighten your day, or your evening ritual to ground and release. You may even find it becomes a little pocket of meditation—where your breath slows, your mind quiets, and you drop into the simple rhythm of self-care.
