Day 1 Ground Your Intention

The beauty of committing to a 21-day challenge is the opportunity we have to shape new, supportive patterns in our lives. Like molding clay, the way we begin sets the tone for what’s to come. With each small action, we create a ripple effect that deepens and strengthens the foundation of our commitment.

Our chakra system holds a lifetime of patterns within our body. The Root Chakra, or Muladhara, is where we begin today. It represents stability, safety, and grounding—the essential qualities for building a strong foundation in both our physical and emotional lives. This challenge invites us to nurture this foundation, commit to ourselves, and create a daily rhythm that supports our body and mind.

Yet, even with the best intentions, resistance often arises. We’ve all felt it: signing up for something but then hesitating to follow through. You swiped right, but then didn’t want to go on the date.  You RSVP yes, but later dread the drive and want to cancel.  While that may be a prudent re-think for a Tinder date, this is different—this is your body, your temple. Your commitment to yourself matters. Your body and being thrive on presence, awareness, and aligned habits.

So how do we stay grounded and committed? By beginning each day with intentional, nourishing actions that connect us to ourselves and the earth.

Grounding Accountability Tasks

Today, take a moment to reflect on your First Five Things: the first actions you take when you wake up. Are they grounding and supportive? For today’s challenge, create a list of five healthy habits and commit to doing at least three of them before you reach for your phone. Reclaim your energy, nurture your body, and ground yourself before diving into the digital world.

Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.

Suggested First Five Things

  • Wake up with gratitude: Think or say, "Thank you" or "Thank you, I love you."

  • Sit up and ask: “What adventure am I on today?”

  • Use the 5-4-3-2-1 technique by Mel Robbins to jump-start your morning.

  • Feel your feet on the earth.

  • Meditate (guided or silent).

  • Brush your teeth and tongue scrape.

  • Sip warm lemon water.

  • Make your bed or fluff your pillows.

  • Write down or feel: three things you’re grateful for.

  • Light a candle to set the mood.

  • Open a window, step outside, or look at the sky.

  • Take 5-10 deep breaths to center yourself.

  • Cuddle with a loved one or pet.

  • Journal out any irritation.  Can this shift to kindness toward yourself and others?

  • Pray sincerely or send loving thoughts to someone who challenges you.

  • Read something uplifting to set the tone for your day.

Journal Prompts

Take time today to reflect on your experience and connect with the Root Chakra:

  1. Write about your experience with the Root Chakra.  What are ways you feel grounded right now?  What can support you in feeling grounded?

  2. What resistance do you experience when trying to implement your First Five Things?

  3. What benefits do you imagine these rituals will bring to your life?

  4. How could these habits positively impact those around you?

  5. If you feel they might inconvenience others, how can you adapt them to work in harmony with your environment?

  6. Write a letter from your body to yourself. What would it say about these rituals?
