Day 20 What Are You Feeding?

At a time when our world is becoming increasingly polarized, we return to foundational teachings around good and evil, and the Power of Oneness.

There is a classic parable of a Cherokee chief talking about the Two Wolves. In it, he tells his grandson:

“There are two wolves living inside of me.”
“Two wolves?” the grandson asks.
“Yes, and they are at war. It’s a terrible fight. One of the wolves is evil—full of anger, self-pity, guilt, pride, arrogance, envy, sorrow, lies, and regret. The other wolf is good—full of kindness, generosity, truth, humility, serenity, and hope.”
The chief pauses, then continues:
“The same fight is going on inside of you, and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson asks, “Which wolf will win the war?”
The chief replies, “Whichever one you feed.”

Many of us have heard this story before, but how often do we pause to ask: What am I feeding right now?

Today, we take this question one step further. Is the wolf you’re feeding driven by a deep-seated habit of “othering” people, creating separation and barriers? What if, instead, we could feed the wolf who knows Oneness and honors the interconnectedness of us all?

The Dalai Lama Won’t Back Down

Oneness isn’t just a comforting idea—it’s a spiritual principle that demands commitment.

In an interview series on Ten Percent Happier, podcast host, Dan Harris got up close with the Dalai Lama and his students, including young activists seeking answers to address the violent fractures in our world. Many of them, though full of reverence, expressed frustration.

They asked: What do we do with all this division, fear, and harm? How can we find real solutions to stop the violence? The Dalai Lama’s answer? He repeatedly returned to Oneness as the antidote. The unrest in the crowd was palpable. People wanted different answers, faster solutions, and a more actionable path. But the Dalai Lama stood firm, holding the flagpole of Oneness high.

If we interpret Oneness as inaction, it can feel maddening to hear. But what if Oneness begins with connection—to ourselves, to our enemies, to our crown? The way I see it, the Dalai Lama must hold up the flagpole of Oneness. If he waivers, if he sounds the horn to separate, then we lose something critical.

We need spiritual leaders to stay the course, to guide us toward unity. Leaders who walk their talk and carry this dream, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whom we honor this week, so wisely preached. Dr. King led with nonviolence (ahimsa) as a principle and a practice, reminding us that the march toward equality, inclusion, human rights, and freedom is also a march toward Oneness.

The practice of “othering” creates separation, hierarchy, and isolation. The practice of Oneness creates unity, equality, and connection.

So I ask you again: Which wolf are you feeding?

JOURNAL

Take a moment to reflect on the energy you’re feeding today. Close your eyes and picture a glowing crown of violet or white light above your head—the energy of the crown chakra. This light represents your connection to universal wisdom and Oneness. It reminds us that we are all part of something greater.

Prompts to Guide Your Practice:

  1. Reflect on how connecting to your crown chakra inspires you to approach others with more compassion. How can this perspective shift your day?

  2. What is one small act of Oneness you can offer today? Perhaps a kind word, a smile, or holding a thought of goodwill for someone. What does this act nurture within you?

  3. What are you feeding in yourself today? What qualities are you nourishing? How does it feel to choose love over fear, unity over separation?

ACTIONS

Prompts for Manifesting on 1/25/25:

  1. Write out your dreamiest vision for the year ahead. How do you see your health, your heart, your home, our world, and the earth evolving?

  2. Before bed, set your intention: “I am here to connect with divine wisdom as I sleep tonight. Please reveal to me what I most need to know right now.”

Gentle Practice to Uplift

Before bed tonight, look up at the stars or sit quietly in a dimly lit space. Place one hand on your heart and the other on your crown. Whisper softly to yourself: “I am part of the whole. I am loved. I choose Oneness.”

Feel the soothing energy of your words and the light they create.

Be with those who help your being.
