Day 7 | Systems for Food Planning

It was one of those moments — my face staring at the computer screen as I thought: Am I really going to get this thing?

And I finally did. I bought an Almond Cow to make homemade nut milks.

I had been eyeing it for over a year and put it on my Holiday Specials shopping list. Labor Day came and went, and I thought, “No, I don’t need that.” But then every time I drank store-bought oat milk, I wondered: Is this really good for me? Should I just have dairy? Which one is worse?

Spoiler: “Which one is worse” is not an ideal way to choose what we put in our bodies.

So I got one. Then I thought: Where do I even put this thing? I never use my rice cooker, so I cleared that space. I made my first batch — and honestly, I don’t know why people make a big deal about soaking almonds. It’s so easy. The first batch was okay, but the second time I added dates — way better! Then I thought, maybe I’ll use the leftover almond meal in smoothies — and ding, ding, ding… love that, too.

It was a surprising win. And now because I enjoy the outcome, I don’t mind the ritual of pulling it out and cleaning it afterward. Let’s be honest: I also love the glass container for the milk. I’m a sucker for pretty things. James Clear says, “Make it attractive” — I say, Make it cuuuuute!

Little bonus — if you’re inspired to get one too, here’s a link to grab $30 off your Almond Cow!

Building Systems for Food Planning

Food prep can feel like a burden, but it’s really about creating systems that make healthy eating effortless. Planning ahead:

  • Clears mental clutter

  • Reduces decision fatigue

  • Keeps you from reaching for processed foods when hunger strikes

Food prep doesn’t have to be boring. Imagine sleek glass tupperware, mason jars in playful shapes, and little rituals that make nourishing yourself joyful. Simple tweaks like these — or your Almond Cow routine — create a system that supports your body and your habits, so eating well becomes second nature.

Protein Made Easy + $50 Off!

For protein, I love having high-quality fish delivered straight to my door from Wild Alaskan Company — (click here to save $50). Everything is wild-caught and frozen right on the boat. One of my besties literally used to work on fishing boats in Alaska, so I asked if she approved of the site — she said yes!

I love the 6 oz portions — easy to thaw, and it’s a fun way to discover new fish I enjoy. You can also curate your own selection and pause your subscription anytime. I have mine come every other month — it’s effortless and reliable.
