Tara’s Inner-Fire Immune Boost Elixir

  • Juice from 2 lemons and 2 blood oranges or other orange in season (can cut up and include slices, too)

  • 2 heaping tsp. of Horseradish

  • 2 inch or ginger root, grated

  • 1 inch turmeric root, grated (or 1 tsp powder)

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 tsp peppercorns

  • 1/2 - 1 tsp cayenne

  • 1 sprig rosemary

  • Apple cider vinegar

Place all ingredients in 32 oz ball jar or container, finishing with the apple cider vinegar and filling to the top. This is your ‘brew’. When ready to consume, add 1 Tbsp. of the brew to about 6 oz. of hot water, add a tsp of local honey to get a good dose of allergy immunity if you like, and enjoy!

Option for heart health: 1 Tbsp Hawthorne berries, or you can always put in a teabag of Hawthorne berry tea to the mix, as long as there is no metal staple in the teabag.

This will make 32 oz ball jar (make sure the cap is plastic!!) Note: color may vary as you get creative with ingredients.

I usually make a double batch as you want to give these a couple weeks in the fridge to cure, shaking all the good stuff up occasionally.  (I also give myself a couple weeks off of it while the new batch is brewing.)

You can always substitute orange with whatever is local, juicy and seasonal, i.e. pomegranate!  Good if you are sensitive to citrus.

A lot of folks also add onion, but I have found it makes the whole thing taste like onion, so I skip it in favor for more garlic.

(BTW, I also add collagen powder to my cup as it blends very well and has no taste.)

This is just how I start, but there are so many different way to make it depending on your needs and the season.  A great resource for variety and inspiration is the book Fire Cider! by Rosemary Gladstar and Friends. I highly recommend it!
