Day 5 | Shedding Your Skin
As we move out of a year of shedding skin and into a season of forward motion, this work of clearing space becomes essential. How we care for our skin — as a nourishing habit and as part of this process — beautifully mirrors the deeper shedding we are doing.
Addressing tolerations is a way of shedding energetic skin.
Debris we’ve been carrying.
Layers that no longer fit.
And this can feel incredibly supportive.
The Shedding Process
The largest organ in our body is the skin — a vital part of a naturally occurring, regenerative process facilitated by our body’s incredible intelligence. As adults, our skin undergoes a shedding and replacement cycle approximately every 28–30 days. Although this process can slow as we age, renewal remains a continuous and essential aspect of our body’s experience.
There are many ways we can support this transformative journey.
Incorporating a quality salt scrub into your routine can serve a meaningful ritual for shedding old skin.
Dry brushing is another powerful method, helping clear away dead skin cells, supporting circulation, and enhancing the skin’s ability to breathe and release toxins through the pores.
Getting sunshine on your skin for about 15 minutes in the morning offers an excellent source of vitamin D as well as natural infrared light (remember to use SPF afterward for protection). And if you spend extended time driving, consider wearing long sleeves or covering your neck and chest to protect your skin.
Shedding the Subtle Body
Transitioning to the subtle body, today we explore shedding skin in a more energetic way.
We align with a process of emergence.
And it goes like this…
ACCOUNTABILITY
Take a moment to meditate on your body's skin. Through a gentle and compassionate lens, visualize the release of dead skin cells. Consider if any of these cells carry something you are ready to shed. You can incorporate this practice while dry brushing, using a salt scrub, or during a 'shower meditation.' Alternatively, treat yourself to a spa session and consciously meditate on the symbolic shedding of skin.
If you find yourself resistant to someone close who is undergoing a transformation, contemplate whether it's time to allow them to shed their skin. Reflect on how you can be more supportive, even if that involves letting go. Remember: support doesn't always require words. We can block or support each other's energy non-verbally.
ACTION – REFRAME
Shift your focus to an area of your skin where you’ve been critical.
Let your awareness linger there as you reflect on the gifts your skin provides — it is the container for every other aspect of your physical form and plays a vital role in detoxification through the pores.
Express gratitude by saying or thinking: “Thank you.”
Acknowledge that every part of your skin is essential in holding you together.
Reframe self-critical thoughts through a lens of appreciation, remembering that your skin holds the mystery of who you are. Love your skin!
