Day 17 | Claim Your Space

In our captivating conversation with Feng Shui expert Ariel Joe Towne today, we uncovered the art of creating harmonious living spaces, revealing profound insights and practical wisdom. As we explored the depths of Feng Shui, Joe painted a vivid picture of how our surroundings can profoundly impact our lives. Here's a condensed recap of the insights that can reshape the way we view our environments and our lives. I highly recommend giving our conversation a thorough listen for a deeper exploration.

From Chaos to Calm

A central element or ‘door’ of Joe's approach involves what he refers to as "The Vision." This encompasses a three-step process: declutter, reorganize, and beautify. When assessing a space, one of the things Joe looks for is ‘the direction the space is moving.’  If a space seems anchored in the past rather than the future, it's time to declutter. In cases of hoarding, Joe identified three types and provided valuable suggestions for those living with collectors of clutter.  ‘If every corner is full, there is no room for new,’ as he put it, emphasizing the importance of creating a space that looks to our future to foster health and avoid stagnation.

Intentionality is central to implementing feng shui cures. Our intentions and the energy of the items in our home emit signals into the world, shaping our connections. By slowing down, we cultivate a deliberate, ritualistic approach to changes.  We can start simply by decluttering one small space.  Notice the things that drain your energy and what brings you joy.  Claim your space, celebrate it with a housewarming or activities that resonate with you, making your home a peaceful and abundant haven.

Joe emphasized the significance of being intentional about the items we keep or discard, especially those with sentimental value. He shared tender advice on how to approach possessions linked to dearly departed loved ones. The process, as he describes it, is truly inner as well as outer when it comes to Feng Shui. Having a clear ritual to move through these types of transitions can be very healing.

Feng shui isn't just about arranging furniture; it has a spiritual component, connecting us to the energy that flows around us, the invisible forces shaping our surroundings. It moves you to notice: How do the things in your home make us feel? Some may question the workings of feng shui, but as the saying goes, you don't need to believe in gravity for it to exert its influence. Similarly, feng shui operates on a level beyond belief – it’s about aligning with the energies that shape our lives, whether we consciously acknowledge them or not.

Our conversation delved deep into profound territories, exploring Joe's story and his wealth of knowledge on claiming space in our homes. Recognizing that what happens in our space mirrors our life, transitioning from chaos to calm can significantly impact overall health. I encourage you to set aside time to listen to today’s talk, absorb Joe's insights, and contemplate the transformative power of claiming space in your home.

What is going on in our space is going on in our life.”
